HISTORY OF THE PROGRAM
Little League Canada, with Al Herback as their author and national coach, will be introducing a new and unique instruction program and resources to your community for the purpose of helping managers and coaches teach our children. Included in this instructional program, “Teaching for Tomorrow”, there will be manuals and DVDS available for the appropriate age groups.
While it is recognized that Little League volunteers are out there doing their best, it is also recognized that they have most likely received little or no specific training for the job. Volunteers who are learning on the job frequently use past experience or a trial and error approach to getting the job done. Often they are subjected to criticism. Also, many managers and coaches offer their services on a short-term basis. This approach to training as been one of the main frustrations of Little League life. The Learning the Game program for ages 4, 5,and 6 ill be done in 6 Innings of 80 to 90 minute practice plans with a step-by-step approach with fun activities from start to finish. Drills will be focusing on the five skills necessary for the kids to learn the game. With the Playing the Game program for ages 7 through 12, there will be 6 Innings of 90 minute practice plans along with 3 Extra Innings, a step-by-step organization of each practice from start to finish, how to teach the fundamentals of ten skills along with appropriate drills, how to work with players and parents and finally, how to use baseball for teaching our children to be fine citizens of tomorrow.
Little League Canada will be launching this nation-wide initiative to every district, league and team in Canada for the 2011 season. Give your coaches and managers an opportunity to enjoy while learning. Coaches and managers may attend one or both sessions if they desire. Bring your glove, comfortable clothing, sneakers and let’s have some fun!!!
Sincerely,
Al Herback
